Performance

Server performance considerations and recommended capacity guidelines.

v24.0

Server performance is directly related to the volume and type of print jobs being processed, and to the specific PriApps features in use.

General guidance

Where PriApps is used only for usage tracking or printer/driver deployment — not processing print queues — a single application server can manage thousands of printers.

For processor-intensive functions such as SSO and Secure Print Release, a load of 200–300 print devices per server is recommended.

Mobile printing (Chromebook, Universal Print, iOS AirPrint) requires rendering print jobs on the server rather than the client PC, which increases server load. If target printers support PDF natively, no server-side rendering is required — significantly reducing load and allowing a single server to handle more jobs.

Distributed deployments

For geographically distributed environments, PriApps recommends a distributed server deployment. Controlling remote printers over unreliable WAN links — particularly for SSO and Secure Print Release — is not recommended.

The number of users is a useful guide to performance but is not a direct factor. Server load is driven by the number and type of print transactions rather than the total user count.
